Preventative Maintenance is important to have a reliable, safe, and long-lasting vehicle. By regularly checking the important areas of your vehicle that are involved in its operation, you will more than likely avoid costly mechanical problems later. It is important to follow the scheduled Preventative Maintenance recommendations in your vehicle’s owner’s manual and to follow the recommended servicing. Some of the items that should be checked regularly are:
- Air Filter: Check it every month, and replace it when it becomes dirty
- Battery: The fluid in your batteries should be checked regularly, and it is also important to check for corrosion that may exist around connections.
- Belts: Your belts should feel tight and should be checked on a regular basis
- Brakes: Check your brake fluid monthly
- Coolant: Your coolant should be checked regularly, and antifreeze should be used in extremely cold temperatures instead of water
- Oil: Change your oil about every three months or when recommended in your owner’s manual
- Power Steering: Check your power steering fluid level once per month
- Tires: At least monthly, check your tires for uneven wear and tire pressure.
- Transmission Fluid: Check your transmission fluid monthly
Following the above procedures with regularity will keep your vehicle running efficiently, and will help to avoid costly mechanical problems in the future.
